Tibetan antelope genetic research is expected to be exploited as genes are being deciphered

It was learned from the relevant departments that the research on the genetic sequencing of the Tibetan antelope is currently in progress. The Tibetan antelope gene is expected to be used after it has been deciphered. According to reports, the research project on genetic sequencing of Tibetan antelopes, penguins and polar bears jointly initiated by Shenzhen Huada Gene Research Institute and Qinghai University was officially launched last month. Our province has sent Tibetan antelope samples to Shenzhen Institute of Gene Research. Experts have already The deciphering of the Tibetan antelope gene code began. Recently, the Vice President of Qinghai University, Ge Lili accepted an exclusive interview with this newspaper.

There are many mysteries on the Tibetan antelope

Reporter: Why do we need to carry out gene sequencing studies on Tibetan antelope?

Guri: Tibetan antelopes are the most adaptable animals on the plateau. Their ability to survive in harsh environments is a miracle in itself. In order to study Tibetan antelopes, I led the team deep into Hoh Xil in March this year, where the snow was there. The knees, extremely cold, Tibetan antelope can survive in such an environment is extraordinary. In addition, Tibetan antelopes can also run quickly under hypoxic conditions. When humans reach these places, it is very difficult to walk and even walk. Therefore, it is certain that the Tibetan antelope must have unusual “structures” and choose to have Tibetan antelopes. The study of genes for sequencing is to uncover these mysteries and then carry out more research. This will eventually enable the application of this research result.

Tibetan antelope gene is expected to be used

Reporter: If there is a major breakthrough in the Tibetan antelope gene research, what is the point?

Geri Li: The purpose of our study is to find the genetic difference of the Tibetan antelope. What is the difference between the Tibetan antelope's genes and other animals? What is the difference? The Tibetan antelope gene sequencing work was completed by the Shenzhen Institute of Gene Research. The task of searching for genetic differences was completed by the research group of the Medical College of Qinghai University. There are five PhD students studying here, and the research talent is not lacking. I believe there will be good research results. Of course, finding genetic differences in Tibetan antelopes is only part of the research. It will also study the genetic function of Tibetan antelopes. Assuming that the differential genes of the Tibetan antelope were found, the second step could be to consider cloning to protect the Tibetan antelope or apply it to other animals through genetic modification. Any scientific research is carried out on the basis of assumptions. We are also moving in the direction of the hypothesis. All mysteries need to be explored step by step.

Part of the mystery on the Tibetan antelope has been opened

Reporter: It is understood that in the past you had conducted extensive research on the coding region of the Tibetan antelope myoglobin gene. Did you find anything?

Geri force: Yes. In recent years, our province has attached great importance to basic scientific research because of its rich precious resources. Our province also has a broad field of research. Various scientific research achievements have made gratifying achievements, such as the results of high altitude disease research has not only won a great society. In response, the Qinghai standard for altitude sickness has also become a measure of the world. Constrained by research equipment and other conditions, we previously only studied Tibetan antelope myoglobin. After three to four years of efforts, we found that the myoglobin gene of Tibetan antelope is different from other animals, that is, the muscles of Tibetan antelope. Red protein is very rich, has a strong oxygen storage function, so that the muscle aerobic increased significantly. In addition, the Tibetan antelope's neuroglobin is also different from other animals, there is a balloon under the belly, these are why the Tibetan antelope can survive in anoxic conditions, the reasons for rapid running, such as the Tibetan antelope genome wide daytime At that time, more answers will be opened on the Tibetan antelope.
