Food safety regulation will boost the RFID industry

Food safety management includes many aspects such as raw materials, production, processing, storage, transportation, and sales. Each link has the potential to contaminate food. Guo Hesheng told reporters: “Without adopting advanced information management methods, it is impossible to achieve full food safety control.”

At present, food safety information has become an integral part of food safety supervision. According to Sun Li from the Institute of Food Safety of the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, in recent years, besides routine supervision and management of food safety, China has also implemented a veterinary drug residue monitoring program, an export food safety monitoring program, and a food production and processing link risk monitoring plan. Other monitoring projects and forward-looking food safety risk early warning mechanisms and food traceability mechanisms are all inseparable from the intervention of information technology.

However, there is still a gap between the level of administrative management and information management in China compared with developed countries, and the simple barcode technology relies too much on manual operations. In this case, the information chain is easily broken or unreal information appears. "The whole process of tracking and tracing food quality involves many aspects of production, processing, circulation, and consumption. Any problem in any part of the supply chain will break the entire chain." Bie Fenglei said.

At present, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology) has been widely used in food safety management. As an easy-to-manage, simple, practical, and flexible application technology, RFID has advantages that bar codes, magnetic cards, IC cards, and other identification technologies cannot match.

In an interview with the reporter, Bian Hongli, chief engineer of the National Electronic Label Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, said that in recent years, the country has successively introduced relevant policies and measures to promote the development of the RFID industry, including the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" for the development of science and technology, "electronic information industry. Adjustment and Rejuvenation Plan, and National Development and Reform Commission's "Radio Frequency Identification Technology Application Pilot Project" project. China's attention to and support for radio frequency identification technology and applications is evident.

Bian Hongli believes that if you want to introduce RFID technology into practical applications, there are technical problems that need to be resolved. Taking pig farming as an example, how to transfer the data from the pig ear tag to the slaughtered piece of pork will affect the application of RFID technology in live pig rearing.

In addition to technical issues, cost is another major obstacle to the further promotion of RFID applications. Not Feng Lei said: "The ultimate solution to the cost problem should be a product of comprehensive coordination. It needs the participation of enterprises, governments, and consumers. Looking at the actual situation of RFID prices and applications, it will take some time for all parties to understand. , Recognize the role of RFID, so that we can finally reach a cost sharing method acceptable to all parties."

For the prospect of RFID, everyone is still very optimistic. Sun Li believes that with the deepening of China's food safety management, RFID technology will play an increasingly important role in food safety supervision.
