Tile selection tips: deep color radiation

Tiles are one of the essential materials used in home decoration, though they often go unnoticed. However, concerns about their radiation levels have sparked discussions online. Many people wonder if darker tiles emit more radiation and what exactly causes this issue. It's true that some types of tiles, especially glazed ones, can contain radioactive elements. Glazed tiles are made by applying a layer of glaze to the tile body, giving them vibrant colors and intricate designs. These tiles are commonly used on kitchen and bathroom walls due to their smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces. The raw materials for glazed tiles typically include natural minerals like feldspar, mica, and quartz—some of which may contain trace amounts of uranium or potassium. Even after high-temperature processing, these radioactive elements can still remain in the final product. What makes dark-colored glazed tiles more concerning is the use of zircon sand in the glaze. This material is known for its high radioactivity and is often added to enhance the tile’s gloss and durability. As a result, darker tiles tend to have higher radiation levels, with red-colored tiles being among the most affected. For example, tiles like "General Red" or "Rhododendron" are known to have elevated radiation levels compared to other colors. Interestingly, white tiles are rarely seen on the market despite their lower radiation levels. This isn't just a matter of aesthetics; white tiles can be too bright and hard to clean, making them less practical for everyday use. As a result, many manufacturers avoid producing them in large quantities. However, it's important to note that radiation levels in tiles are generally low, especially when purchasing from reputable brands. Quality assurance and proper testing ensure that most tiles meet safety standards. Still, it's wise to be cautious. Avoid using too many dark or red tiles in your home, as they can create a gloomy atmosphere and potentially increase radiation exposure. When buying tiles, always ask for the manufacturer's radiation test report and include this information in your contract. This serves as a valuable reference if any issues arise later. Tile selection should always prioritize health and safety, so take your time and make informed decisions. If you ever suspect a tile has excessive radiation, don’t hesitate to protect your rights.
