Introduction to synthetic rubber basics

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)
a. Production method: using butadiene, styrene as monomer, rosin acid soap or fatty acid mixed soap as emulsifier, hydrogen peroxide diisopropylbenzene as initiator, at 5-8 ° C temperature in water emulsion The emulsion polymerization is carried out, and then the unreacted monomer is removed, and the coagulant is added to agglomerate, washed, dehydrated, dried, pressed, and packaged to obtain a finished product.
With the monomer ratio, polymerization temperature, emulsifier type, conversion rate, anti-aging agent type, coagulant type and filler composition, etc., a series of products with more varieties are formed.
b. Product performance: yellow or yellowish brown block, granular or ribbon elastomer, slightly styrene smell. Soluble in toluene, gasoline, chloroform. It has stable chemical properties, better wear resistance, heat resistance and aging resistance than natural rubber, but its elasticity and tear resistance are inferior to natural rubber. At the same time, it also has high strength, good processing performance, wide adaptability, safe vulcanization operation and good corrosion resistance and dielectric properties.
Among the styrene-butadiene rubber varieties, styrene-butadiene rubber SBR1500 has excellent adhesion and processability, and good physical and mechanical properties. However, due to the pollution of the added anti-aging agent, it is easy to change color under illumination. The oil-filled styrene-butadiene rubber SBR1712 has good physical properties and wear resistance, good processing performance, small shrinkage of the rubber compound, smooth surface of the extruded and calendered rubber, and low heat generation during deformation. The non-polluting styrene-butadiene rubber SBR1502 is generally equivalent to SBR1500 except for its non-polluting properties.
c. Uses: Used in the tire industry, also used in the production of hoses, tapes, cable wraps, footwear tapes, etc.
d. Packing, storage and transportation: Packed with polyethylene film, jacket kraft paper or polypropylene woven bag, each net weight 25kg, the package should have obvious batch number, production date and other signs. It should be stored in a dry, ventilated and clean warehouse. It should be in a row when stored. Keep a certain gap between rows. The height should be no more than 10 pieces of glue. Avoid direct sunlight, rain and pollution when stored. Do not share with flammable materials. Storage and transportation, the storage period is generally not more than one year. Pay attention to moisture, rain and sun protection when transporting.
Styrene-butadiene latex (SBRL)
a. Production method: using butadiene, styrene as monomer, leveling agent "O" or "OP" as emulsifier, using potassium persulfate as initiator, polymerization at 40±2 °C, When the dry matter reaches 43%, the reaction is terminated, the discharge is started, the pH is adjusted by filtration, and the finished latex is obtained, and the barrel is metered.
According to the monomer ratio, polymerization temperature, dry matter content, emulsifier and redox system, a variety of different grades of styrene-butadiene latex products can be produced.
b. Product performance: white emulsion with blue opalescence, slightly styrene odor. It has good adhesion and dilution stability, and its mechanical stability is superior to natural latex. Because the particles are smaller than natural latex, they are easily dispersed evenly, have good diffusibility, can saturate the product well, and can be mixed with natural latex in any ratio. The physical and mechanical properties of the styrene-butadiene latex film progress with increasing styrene content.
c. Use: For general-purpose latex, the styrene-butadiene latex produced in China has a combined styrene content of 30% to 70%, of which 50% and 60% are mainly used in the printing and dyeing industry. Latex products, fiber fabric impregnation, tire cord dipping, coatings, adhesives and other industrial parts.
d. Packing, storage and transportation: Packed in galvanized iron drum, the net weight of each drum is 190kg and 180kg. The barrel should be marked with the production batch number and production date. It should be stored in a clean, cool, cold-proof warehouse. The storage temperature should be 10~30°C, and the storage period is six months. Exposure, freezing and access to heat sources should be prevented during storage and transportation. The user must check the pH value before use. If the pH value is too low, adjust it to the specified value with ammonia or alkaline water before using it.
Carboxyl styrene butadiene latex (XSBRL)
a. Production method: using butadiene and styrene as the main monomers, a small amount of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid as the third monomer, and leveling agent "O", "OP" or "O?" as the emulsifier , Dicumyl hydroperoxide is used as initiator, emulsion polymerization is carried out at 40±2°C. When the conversion rate reaches 97%, the reaction is terminated and the temperature is lowered. When the temperature drops to 15-25°C, the discharge starts and the latex is fed. The storage tank, after filtering and adjusting the pH value with ammonia gas, obtains the finished latex and carries out metering and barreling.
During the production process, a variety of different grades of carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex can be produced by varying the ratio of various monomers and using different types of emulsifiers.
b. Product performance: With the performance of styrene-butadiene latex, the bonding performance of carboxyl latex is improved due to the introduction of polar genes. And has excellent mechanical and chemical stability.
(1) The carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex used for papermaking has small viscosity, good activity, easy mixing with other auxiliary materials, and good process performance. The paper treated with the paper has a bright print, high gloss, and improved adaptability, water resistance and ink absorbability. Good recovery from freezing, can achieve sulfur-free "vulcanization".
(2) Carboxy styrene-butadiene latex for carpet, with high total solid content, good bonding performance, can be cross-linked by heating without sulfur, and the film has high tensile strength and good water resistance.
c. Use: It is used in the paper industry for the manufacture of high-grade paper such as coated paper and wrapping paper, and also for fiber impregnated products. In the carpet industry, the bonding materials used for tufted carpets and needled carpets can also be used as binders in the processing of artificial leather and fiber sheets.
d. Packing, storage and transportation: Packed in galvanized iron vats with a net weight of 190kg per drum. It should be stored in a clean, cool warehouse. The storage temperature should be 10~30°C, and the storage period is 6 months. Avoid exposure, freezing and heat source baking during storage and transportation, and strictly keep the package sealed. The user needs to check the pH value before use. If the pH value is too low, it can be adjusted to the specified value with ammonia or alkaline water before it can be used.
Butadiene rubber (BR)
a. Production method: using butadiene as a monomer, using 60-90 ° C residual oil as a solvent, under the action of nickel-based catalyst nickel naphthenate, boron trifluoride, triisobutyl aluminum, dissolved in The butadiene in the solvent is directionally polymerized, and the natural poly-cis-1,4 structure polybutadiene natural glue enters the termination kettle, and the terminator and anti-aging agent are added to terminate the reaction, and then enter the coagulation kettle. The agglomeration is carried out, and the monomer and the solvent are removed (recycled after purification), and the rubber particles are separated from the water by a vibrating sieve, and the rubber particles are extruded and dried to obtain a finished product.
Different grades of products can be produced by controlling different process conditions during the polymerization process.
b. Product performance: colorless or light yellow elastomer, high elasticity, excellent cold and abrasion resistance, excellent flex resistance, good in-mold activity, but low tensile strength and tear strength It has poor wet skid resistance and cold flow.
