In recent years, well-known brands such as Qumei, Baiqiang, and Yifeng, which have traditionally dominated the panel furniture market, have started to enter the solid wood furniture sector. These new solid wood products are often displayed in the most prominent positions in showrooms, signaling a growing trend in consumer preferences.
Wen Shiquan, chairman of Yifeng Furniture, once stated that while panel furniture is seen as the future trend, solid wood furniture offers more flexibility and value. It allows for simpler, stylish, and personalized designs, making it appealing to a significant portion of the market.
Panel furniture still holds about half of the market share, with solid wood furniture accounting for roughly two-fifths. The remaining portion is occupied by upholstered and other types of furniture. Over the past five years, solid wood furniture has shown consistent growth, while the market share of panel furniture has been gradually declining.
"The solid wood furniture market is growing at an average annual rate of 5% to 8," said Shen Yaojun, vice president of Beijing Jimei Home Furnishing Market Group. While panel furniture currently has higher sales volume due to its price advantage, he believes its market share will continue to shrink over the next few years as consumer awareness around environmental protection increases.
"This is quite different from what we see in the West," Shen noted. In Europe, panel furniture is becoming more popular because of advanced manufacturing technology that minimizes harmful substances, and consumers there are more environmentally conscious. In China, however, several panel furniture brands have faced scandals over excessive formaldehyde levels, leading to public concern. As a result, many consumers now prioritize health and opt for solid wood furniture when they can afford it.
The lack of environmental standards in some panel furniture products has led to a decline in their market presence. Liu Yang, deputy general manager of Chengwaicheng Furniture Plaza, has witnessed the industry's evolution. He recalls the boom in panel furniture due to low production barriers, but also notes that smaller manufacturers with poor quality and environmental performance have since exited the market.
As environmental awareness grows, more consumers are focusing on the eco-friendliness and quality of their furniture. If panel furniture fails to meet safety standards or lacks proper edge sealing, it risks losing customer trust. Solid wood furniture, with its lower formaldehyde content and improving affordability, is gaining popularity, especially among younger consumers who appreciate modern designs.
Shen Yaojun suggests that panel furniture manufacturers should take a long-term approach by expanding production scale, reducing costs, and increasing market share. He believes that only those with strong production capabilities and competitive pricing will survive in the future. The industry is expected to consolidate, with larger companies dominating the market.
Yu Xiusu, Secretary General of the Beijing Furniture Industry Association, emphasized that panel furniture manufacturers must strictly control raw materials and production processes. Using eco-friendly boards and improving edge sealing techniques can help reduce formaldehyde emissions. Combining these efforts with affordable prices and trendy designs will allow them to remain competitive.
In addition to improving production, Shen Yaojun suggested that manufacturers explore new distribution models. Some companies have tried setting up their own branches nationwide, but this approach hasn't always been successful. Instead, he proposed a joint-stock cooperation model where manufacturers and distributors share profits. This could align their interests and encourage better sales strategies, ultimately leading to mutual benefits.
Wedge Prism
Wedge prism is an optical element having plane-inclined surfaces, usually the faces are inclined toward one another at very small angles. Wedges divert light toward their thicker portions.
Wedge prism is commonly used in laser system for eliminating the reflections from the second surface or for beam steering.circle wedge, square wedge, irregular wedge...Every materials, sizes, wedges and coatings may be available by custom orders.
