As manufacturing demands continue to rise, the construction machinery industry is encountering more complex challenges. In this environment, improving processing efficiency has become a critical factor in maintaining competitiveness. Each manufacturer must continuously adopt advanced technologies and adapt them to on-site conditions, which helps reduce production cycles and enhance product quality.

Selection of Processing Equipment

Given the widespread use of boom-type structures in construction machinery—such as truck crane booms, excavator booms, and wrecker tractor arms—it's common to require multiple sets of holes with high coaxiality. Due to the long length of these workpieces, many manufacturers opt for an opposed horizontal double-sided boring and milling machining center (see Figure 1). This type of machine features two independent mainframes, with network-connected control panels that allow both stations to monitor each other’s position coordinates, ensuring consistent alignment and easier operation.

The X-axis guides of the two mainframes in such a machine may not always be parallel due to environmental factors like foundation movement. Therefore, regular checks of verticality and axis coaxiality are essential. To efficiently measure the coaxiality between the main and auxiliary machines, the machine is often equipped with a RENISHAW detection system. This system collects data from multiple points (as shown in Figure 2), ensuring that the coaxiality distribution remains within the desired range, thus guaranteeing accurate machining results.

Certain components in construction machinery, like turntables for large-tonnage all-terrain cranes, require precise machining in tight spaces. Standard drilling and milling machines are often too large to access these areas. However, a pentahedral machining center with a narrow vertical milling head can effectively solve this issue. This allows manufacturers to avoid purchasing custom non-standard tools, reducing costs and significantly improving processing efficiency.
