Water heater accident high-risk bathroom full body inspection security

Since February 4th, severe cold and snowstorms have swept across central and eastern China, marking a sharp drop in temperatures from relatively warm conditions earlier in the month. By February 7th, the southern regions experienced significant low-temperature rain and snow, with temperatures dropping by 6°C to 10°C in most areas, and some regions seeing drops of over 12°C. This sudden shift has transformed many southern areas from a previous period of warmth into a much colder environment. The phenomenon known as “cold spring” has caused considerable inconvenience for daily life, while the prolonged cold weather also increases the risk of gas water heater and fire-related accidents. Cold weather poses a serious threat to water tanks, especially those used in gas water heaters. During winter, windows and doors are often kept closed, leading to poor air circulation. This can cause insufficient oxygen supply for gas appliances, resulting in incomplete combustion and the release of harmful gases like carbon monoxide. These gases can lead to poisoning or even suffocation. Poor-quality products increase the likelihood of such incidents significantly. In such weather conditions, if proper antifreeze measures are not taken, the water tank—technically called the heat exchanger—can freeze and crack, which may damage the unit and affect its normal function. If the exhaust pipe of a gas water heater lacks an anti-wind device, it should be installed immediately. Additionally, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when using the water heater to prevent freezing and cracking of the tank. To ensure safety, local authorities have been conducting thorough inspections of bathrooms in rented homes. In recent days, a town service center launched a comprehensive “physical examination” of all rental properties in the area, identifying and addressing potential hazards associated with gas water heaters. Rental house administrators have visited homes to educate residents on autumn and winter fire prevention, reminding them to pay close attention to electricity and gas safety. They also inspected the use of water heaters and advised against purchasing, installing, or using inline gas water heaters. This initiative began last year, with over 10,000 rental housing managers involved in inspecting more than 50,000 units. Over 60,000 pieces of safety materials have been distributed, raising awareness about safe gas water heater usage and helping to prevent various safety incidents in rental homes. For consumers, experts recommend paying attention to key safety features when purchasing electric water heaters. It is important to choose reputable brands and buy from reliable retailers. Electric water heaters with enamel-lined tanks are preferable, and they should include standard safety protections such as grounding, dry-run prevention, overheating protection, and overpressure devices—especially leakage protection, which directly impacts user safety. Moreover, after approximately 8 years of use, the galvanized coating on the electric heating element may wear away, and other components may begin to degrade, posing risks to personal safety. At this point, it may be wise to consider replacing the unit.
