Global plastic pipe demand increases year by year

Global plastic pipe demand increases year by year According to a recent report from Freedonia, the global demand for plastic pipes is expected to grow at an annual rate of 8.5% through the coming years. By 2017, the U.S. market is anticipated to see a significant rebound, driven largely by the recovery in construction activity. This growth contrasts sharply with the stagnant performance seen between 2007 and 2012, when global demand only increased by 2.4% annually. In the U.S., the construction sector's revival is expected to push the average annual growth rate of plastic pipe demand to 9.8%—a marked improvement compared to the 7.1% decline observed between 2007 and 2012. Similarly, Western Europe has experienced a slowdown in demand, but the region is projected to see a 5% increase in plastic pipe consumption by 2017. Asia is also showing strong growth, with demand forecasted to rise by 9.7%—slightly lower than the 11% recorded between 2007 and 2012. The shift toward plastic pipes is being fueled by their cost-effectiveness and versatility, as they increasingly replace traditional materials like copper, concrete, and steel in various applications. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) remains the most widely used material for piping systems, accounting for over 55% of total demand in 2012. However, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is gaining traction in many building applications, according to Freedonia. HDPE offers superior durability and flexibility, making it a preferred choice in certain sectors. Fiberglass pipes, once limited due to their high cost, are now becoming more viable as their performance advantages become more recognized. With improved manufacturing techniques and growing demand for durable, long-lasting solutions, fiberglass is beginning to find its place in water infrastructure and other critical applications. As the industry evolves, plastic pipes are set to play an even more vital role in global infrastructure development.
