Environmentally friendly flooring is favored

In recent months, the issue of substandard flooring has become increasingly common, raising concerns about its quality. The main problems include excessive formaldehyde emissions and poor surface wear resistance, which have become the most frequent complaints from consumers. According to a recent study, over 90% of homes with poor indoor air quality were found to have used flooring that did not meet safety standards. As people's environmental awareness continues to grow, more and more consumers are paying close attention to the eco-friendliness of flooring products. The problem of unqualified flooring has repeatedly raised red flags. According to a report in *Home Weekly* on April 3, the Heilongjiang Provincial Industry and Commerce Bureau announced that 16 types of flooring products failed quality inspections. Of these, 7 products had excessive formaldehyde emissions, making up 40% of the total. In addition, many products also failed to meet the required standards for surface wear resistance. A report released by the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in the first quarter of 2014 revealed that three batches of flooring products did not meet national standards. Companies such as Huzhou Nanxun Jiuxuan Aoxin Flooring Factory and Foshan Pengbang Wood Manufacturing Co., Ltd. were among those involved. For instance, Zhongshan Mulifang Wood Industry Co., Ltd. had issues with paint film adhesion and moisture content. Further inspection results showed that seven batches of impregnated paper-pressed wooden flooring (commonly known as laminate flooring) were found to be non-compliant. Out of these, six batches failed in the surface wear resistance test, involving companies like Shenyang Colorful Wood Co., Ltd. and Wuxi Ziguang Wood Industry Co., Ltd. Additionally, Yixing Shiwang Wood Industry Co., Ltd. had one batch of products that failed in bond strength testing. As a result, more consumers are now seeking out "eco-friendly" brands when purchasing flooring. It is well known that the amount of formaldehyde released is a critical indicator of a product’s safety. Excessive formaldehyde can cause strong irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. Meanwhile, surface wear resistance is another key factor that determines the durability and lifespan of the floor. Since flooring covers a large area in homes, it plays a vital role in maintaining good indoor air quality. With natural resources becoming scarcer and growing environmental consciousness, more consumers are now choosing eco-friendly flooring options. According to a representative from a natural flooring company, solid wood flooring is currently considered the most environmentally friendly option. However, laminate flooring offers better cost-effectiveness and comes in a wider range of styles and colors, making it popular among younger generations. Reinforced ecological flooring, which uses active eco-friendly paint, is even more sustainable than traditional laminate flooring. Experts in the flooring industry emphasize that environmental friendliness is now the top priority for most consumers when choosing flooring. They also advise buyers to pay close attention to the environmental certification labels on the products to ensure they are making safe and responsible choices.
