The high-performance carbon fiber produced has a tensile strength of 4.86 GPa and a tensile modulus of 541 GPa. When the modulus reaches the performance of similar foreign products (540GPa), the tensile strength is much better than that of foreign products (4.02GPa), thus breaking the monopoly of foreign countries in this field and filling the gap in domestic technology.

High-strength high-modulus carbon fiber is also called graphite fiber. Compared with traditional high-strength carbon fiber, its carbon content is more than 99%, and it has a higher modulus. In addition, it has the advantages of low thermal expansion coefficient, high electrical conductivity, good thermal stability, dimensional stability, etc. It is used as a key material in spacecraft, aerospace and other fields. The core manufacturing technology of high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber has been monopolized by a few foreign companies. For example, Toray Industries Inc. has mature T800, T1000 and other high-strength medium-mode carbon fiber products, but also has M40J, M50J, M55J, M60J, etc. High strength and high modulus carbon fiber products. In view of the importance of high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber in the field of national defense, its preparation technology has been blocked domestically, and its products are also embargoed domestically.

Founded in 2008, the Ningbo Ningbo Institute of Special Fibre Business Division has established high-performance carbon fiber as a development target. It has also broken through the high-strength medium-mode carbon fiber pilot test by relying on the National Engineering Laboratory for carbon fiber preparation technology of the National Development and Reform Commission and the carbon fiber detection and characterization platform of the National Development and Reform Commission. And engineering technology. At the end of 2014, the business division started the research and development of high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber. In May 2015, it successfully prepared M50J-grade high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber. After testing by aviation, aerospace and nuclear energy, the tensile strength and tensile modulus were as high as 5.12GPa, 475GPa, the performance reached or even exceeded the foreign similar products, followed by a continuous stabilization of the production. At the end of 2015, the business division launched a higher-level M55J-grade high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber development work, and successfully achieved its preparation technology breakthrough at the end of January 2016. At present, Ningbo Materials Co., Ltd. already has continuous and stable production capacity of M40J, M46J, M50J grade products, and has formed M55J grade high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber preparation technology.

Domestic M55J-class high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber has reached or even surpassed similar foreign products in terms of main performance. However, senior engineer Zhang Yonggang still needs to solve problems such as stable production of M55J-class domestically produced carbon fiber and matching of fiber and matrix during processing of composite materials. For this purpose, in the future work, Wang Xuefei and Qian Xin will conduct research on high-strength and high-modulus carbon fiber structure and performance stabilization, fiber surface structure design, and composite material performance correlation.

It is reported that while the Special Fiber Business Unit is striving to achieve stable production of high-strength, high-modulus and high-modulus carbon fiber M55J, it will follow up with the development of M60J-grade high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber.
