Bauhinia has a "big voice"

In the field of industrial safety, Zhang Gong, the Minister of Security, has become a well-known figure in Bauhinia Ink (Hebei) Co., Ltd. A common saying among employees is, “It’s better to offend the manager than to anger Mr. Zhang.” This phrase, though often used as a joke, reflects the respect and fear that Zhang Gong commands due to his strict yet effective approach to safety. With over six years of hands-on experience in the field, Zhang Gong has made a lasting impression on everyone he meets. He is confident, energetic, and always ready to communicate. His booming voice is one of his most recognizable traits. Every day, he walks through the work site, checking for potential hazards, enforcing corrective actions, and even personally repairing equipment when necessary. He takes every detail seriously, ensuring that nothing is overlooked. His leadership style is firm but fair—he doesn’t hesitate to correct unsafe behavior or warn about hidden dangers. “If you don’t see him, you’ll hear him first,” workers often say. Once they hear his loud voice, they know something is about to happen. It’s not uncommon for him to be found in the workshop rather than the office. When he appears, he’s usually holding a towel and smiling. “The machines are so loud here,” he says with a grin, “so I have to shout to be heard. If I don’t, people might forget what they’re supposed to do.” One day, while inspecting the flatbed ink shop, Zhang Gong spotted a worker named Pharaoh climbing high without a seatbelt. “Pharaoh, get down! You haven’t even tied your seatbelt—what are you trying to do, live?” he shouted. Pharaoh, still at the top, responded with a casual remark: “It’s hot, and seatbelts are annoying. Don’t be so strict, we’re all experienced!” But Zhang Gong wasn’t amused. He stood with his hands on his hips, eyes sharp, and yelled, “Pharaoh, get down! What kind of experienced workers are you? If you fall, it’s on you!” Pharaoh, seeing the intensity in Zhang Gong’s expression, quickly descended. Zhang Gong then helped Lao Wang fasten his seatbelt and said, “I know it’s hot, but I’ve worked in the chemical industry for years, and I’ve seen too many accidents. We can’t afford to be careless. Safety isn’t something to take lightly.” Lao Wang blushed and nodded, securing his seatbelt before climbing back up. After hearing Zhang Gong’s warning, the entire team became more alert. Workers on high platforms instinctively touched their helmets and masks, ensuring they were following safety protocols. On another occasion, Zhang Gong noticed driver Li driving a forklift while looking unwell, possibly suffering from a cold. “Master Li, stop the vehicle!” he called out. Li quickly halted the forklift, only to be handed a glass of hot water by Zhang Gong. Surprised, Li took the cup and sipped it, eyes watering as he said, “Zhang Gong, I’m really scared of you. I knew you were watching me, and I was tired and driving poorly. Now that I’ve had some water, I feel much better.” Today, in the production workshop, Zhang Gong’s method of identifying and addressing safety issues has gained widespread recognition. Employees affectionately call him the “Big Voice” of safety on the shop floor. This article is a reprint from an online media source and reflects the author's views.
