With over six years of hands-on experience in the field, Zhang Gong has made a lasting impression on everyone around him. He is confident, energetic, and always ready to communicate. His booming voice is one of his most distinctive features. Every day, he walks through the site, checking for potential hazards, enforcing necessary corrections, and even personally fixing equipment when needed. He takes his responsibilities seriously, paying attention to every detail and leading by example. He never hesitates to correct unsafe practices or stop dangerous commands, reminding everyone that safety is not something to be taken lightly.
"If you don't see him, you'll hear him," workers say. As soon as they hear his loud voice, they know it's time to be alert. It's not unusual to find him in the workshop rather than the office. When he appears, he's usually holding a towel and smiling. He jokes, “The machines here are so loud that I have to shout just to be heard. If I don’t speak up, no one will remember the rules.â€
One day, while inspecting the flatbed ink shop, Zhang Gong spotted a worker, Pharaoh, climbing onto a high platform without securing his seatbelt. Without hesitation, he shouted, “Pharaoh, come down! You’re not wearing a seatbelt—what are you trying to do, live dangerously?†Pharaoh, still on the platform, looked down at Zhang Gong, who was now standing with his hands on his hips, eyes sharp and voice firm. “Pharaoh, come down! What kind of skilled worker are you? Are you afraid of falling?†Pharaoh, seeing the seriousness in Zhang Gong’s expression, quickly descended.
Zhang Gong then helped Lao Wang fasten his seatbelt and said, “I know it's hot, but after working in the chemical industry for so long, I've seen too many accidents. We must stay vigilant. Safety isn't something we can ignore.†Lao Wang blushed and nodded, adjusting his seatbelt before climbing back up. After hearing Zhang Gong’s warning, the entire team became more aware. Workers at height instinctively touched their safety helmets and protective masks, ensuring they were following all safety protocols.
On another occasion, when Zhang Gong visited the gravure ink shop, he noticed driver Li, who was operating a forklift, seemed unwell, possibly due to a cold. Without delay, he called out, “Master Li, stop the forklift!†Li quickly halted the vehicle, only to be handed a large glass of boiled water by Zhang Gong. Surprised, Li took the cup and sipped it, eyes watering as he said, “Zhang Gong, I’m really scared of you… I know you’re watching me, and I feel relieved when I know you're there.â€
Today, in the workshop, Zhang Gong’s approach to safety has become widely recognized. Employees affectionately call him the “Big Voice†for safety on the shop floor, a title he wears with pride. His presence ensures that safety is never overlooked, and his influence continues to shape a culture of awareness and responsibility throughout the facility.
