Research progress on photocatalytic hydrogen production from dye-sensitized semiconductors by Xinjiang Institute of Physics and Chemistry

Hydrogen has both high combustion value and no pollution. It is the ideal green clean energy. The use of inexhaustible solar photocatalysis to decompose water is the most ideal hydrogen production technology. The core and bottleneck of this technology lies in the development of highly efficient visible light-responsive semiconductor photocatalysts, which have long been facing enormous challenges.

In view of the development of semiconductor photocatalysts, combined with the development of materials science and nanotechnology, scientists from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Xinjiang Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences will use n-type organic semiconductors and their supermolecules The concept and method of assembly were introduced into this field, and it was composited with typical semiconductor photocatalyst titanium dioxide (inorganic) or graphite phase carbon nitride (organic), and a series of novel composite semiconductor photocatalytic material systems were built in-situ. The performance of this series of composite photocatalysts in the visible light photocatalytic decomposition of water to hydrogen provides new ideas, experimental evidence, and theoretical support for the development of semiconductor photocatalysts for the production of hydrogen from solar water, and opens up the use of azelaimides. A new area of ​​molecular self-assembly applications.

This series of researches is a cross-cutting field in the fields of materials, chemistry, semiconductor physics, optics, and nanotechnology.
